Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
As we still have a big 0 in the Sci-Fi forum, I thought I would make a nice little contest on posting a sci-fi piece. You have to write a great sci-fi story, 500-1000 words, so just a short story. Post it in the forum and put the link here.
Ends march 15th, so that's enough time, agreed? Ask me if you need an extension.
Now, um... awards. I have no idea, any ideas?

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Sci-fi isn't really my thing. Well saying that I've never done any Sci-fi, I shall set to work immedietly and create something that will herald the fall of a thousand worlds! Or could just be of good standard, what evers good for you

Rewards
On YWS, we had a point system and would occasionally use points as rewards for contests. As the points were reset every two weeks, however, most of the rewards were critiques. And sometimes people would mix the two.
Example:
1st place: 2 critiques, 120 points
2nd place: 1 critique, 100 points
3rd place: 50 points and a pat on the back.
Whether the items critiqued are the winner's choice or your's, that's up to you.
Example:
1st place: 2 critiques, 120 points
2nd place: 1 critique, 100 points
3rd place: 50 points and a pat on the back.
Whether the items critiqued are the winner's choice or your's, that's up to you.

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Joe has posted ten stories so far. He enters a contest where first place is 3 critiques. He wins first place. If it's his choice which of his works get critiqued, he sends the links in a PM to the one who made the contest. If not, then the one who made the sontest will look at all the stories Joe wrote and choose wich ones he wants to critique.
A critique is like an edit. So, if you go to one of BBB's storie, and you edit it for him, thoughts and opinions included, then you have critiqued his story. To critique three things is to give three critiques.
Cleared up?

Perfect example!
Okay, here's a perfect example. Say Mark enters this contest and wins 1st place. (Yay, Mark!) He then gets three reviews (critiques) of his choice. So Mark goes and picks three stories that he wrote and posts them on this site. If they're already posted, he doesn't need to post them again, that would be spamming. Then he copies the links of his his stories and PMs them to Fire. Fire will then click the links to see his stories, and will edit (critique) them for him.
You see?

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
That's...confusing...and somewhat pointless. No offense, or nothing. I think it would be better for someone (Mark) to be the 'judge' of the contest, and whoever wanted to could post their story. He would pick the one he liked best and that one would win. And there could be other awards, like Most Humorous, Longest, Shortest, stuff like that. But I've never done this kind of thing before, so...yeah...

Okay, I was explaining an idea for a REward, and an Award. Sorry about that.

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Haha, well now that we have a chat, do you want to go in there for this? We're kinda spamming his contest thread, I think.
As a reward for coming in first place, the contest owner would go and review/edit/critique (whatever you want to call it) X number of stories by the winner of the contest.

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Hey Mark! I think that this is a great idea... I will try to write something after this Sunday, until then I am busy. *Thinks* Actually, I may have a story if it's under 1000 words....

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Oh no... it's 1,133 words. But that's okay, because it wasn't that good, and I have a better idea.
Also, is there a rating limit? Like, you could do a contest for G rated stories (not necessarily right now, but sometime), then one for PG, then for PG-13, and then for any rating. (There are some of us who probably don't like to write R stuff.)
By the way, this is a great idea, Mark! (Contests)

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Here's an idea for an award... what if you made a forum called "Contest Hall of Fame" or "Hall of Winners" or something like that, and for every contest make a new Winner thread. (Example: Hall of Winners>>Sci-fi Contest March 15, 2008 Winners.)
Once you've made the topic, you can post the first, second, third, etc. winners of the competition. You could have as many winners as you want... and they all get their own Cyber-plaque!
And if you want a reward, I like the critiques idea that they had.

Hall of Fame...
That sounds really awesome. Has my vote all the way.

Re: Sci-Fi Contest (Ends March 15th)
Wow! Great idea Jamon! That might encourage people to work harder and get more ebtries in! Hehe!
1000 is just an estimate, you can have 2k if you like. You might as well post it, I didn' say there was limit on how many you could post! lol. Any rating limit is accepted, just try and make it child friendly or give plenty of warning.

Nice ideas. I like them especially the Hall of Fame. Keep up with the good work! There must be more ideas out there.
